Hinges of equal angular velocities are replaced in case of defects described in the previous article

It does not make sense to replace individual parts of the hinges, in extreme cases, only replacement of the lubricant and the protective cover of the hinge is allowed

We remove the front wheel drive, as described in the article "Removing the front wheel drives of the Mazda 6 car"

We clean the parts and inspect the drive

Replacement of the drive joints of the Mazda 6

The outer hinge of equal angular velocities should rotate with light force, without jerks and jams, radial and axial backlashes. If there are any, we replace the hinge

Replacement of drive joints of Mazda 6

The inner hinge should move in angular and axial directions with a slight effort, while there should be no jerks, jams and radial backlashes. Otherwise, replace the hinge

The protective covers of the outer and inner hinge must not have cracks and tears

The wheel drive shaft must not be deformed

External hinge replacement

To replace the outer hinge and its cover, we detach the lock of the large fastening clamp with a screwdriver or bite with side cutters and remove the clamp (single-use clamps)

We shift the protective cover from the hinge housing and knock the hinge clip off the shaft with a hammer through the beard, overcoming the force of the locking ring

Remove the outer hinge from the shaft slots

Replacement of the drive joints of the Mazda 6

Remove the locking ring by removing it with a screwdriver from the shaft groove

When assembling, we replace the ring. Usually the ring is included in the set of a new hinge

Remove the small clamp and remove the protective cover

When installing the hinge, replace the cover. The case is usually included with the new hinge

Before installing a new external hinge, fill its cavity with grease (if the hinge was not lubricated by the manufacturer) in an amount of about 100 g. First we fill the hinge housing, and then we distribute the remaining amount in the corrugations of the cover

You can use the SHRUS-4 lubricant

Install the outer hinge cover and the hinge in reverse order

When installing the hinge on the shaft, we press the hinge with hammer blows on the shank of the hinge through a knockout of soft metal until the hinge clip is fixed with a locking ring

Before fixing the hinge cover with a large clamp, we pull the edge of the cover with a screwdriver to equalize the air pressure inside and outside the cover

Replacing the inner hinge

Replacement of the drive joints of the Mazda 6

To disassemble and replace the inner hinge and its cover, remove the clamps of fastening the hinge cover to its body and to the shaft

If you are disassembling the hinge to replace the cover or intend to install the old hinge, mark the relative position of the hinge body and shaft

Replacement of drive joints of Mazda 6Replacement of Mazda 6 drive joints

We move the cover from the hinge housing and disconnect the housing from the drive

Mark the position of the hinge hub relative to the shaft (if we install the same hinge)

We pry the locking ring of the hinge hub with a screwdriver and remove the ring from the shaft groove

We remove the hub with rollers from the shaft slots and remove the protective cover from the shaft

We wash all metal parts with kerosene until the grease is completely removed

We inspect the rollers, the hub and the inner cavity of the housing. Bullying, dents and corrosion are not allowed. If malfunctions are detected, replace the hinge assembly

We install the hinge cover on the shaft and fasten it with a yoke

We install the hinge hub on the shaft slots, combining the marks applied during disassembly, and fix it with a locking ring

Fill the cavity of the inner hinge with grease in an amount of about 100 g. Fill the hinge housing first, and then distribute the remaining amount in the corrugations of the cover
