We remove the front suspension levers for replacement or repair. There are damages on the lever:
- deformation of the lever itself;
- ball bearing wear;
- wear of silent blocks.
The work on removing the left and right front lever is identical.
Operations to remove the lever should be carried out when hanging out the front of the car or a fully raised car on a lift.
When hanging out one wheel, the stabilizer bar will create a load and interfere with the removal of the lever.
To remove the lever, remove the wheel.
Disconnect the stabilizer bar mount as described above
We remove the engine protection from below.
With the head on 16, we turn off the nut of the coupling bolt of the terminal connection of the rotary knuckle and the ball bearing finger, holding the bolt with a key of the same size.
We take out the bolt or knock it out with a hammer made of soft metal.
With a powerful slotted screwdriver or mounting blade, we unclench the connection of the rotary knuckle and the ball bearing finger.
At the same time, shaking the steering knuckle from side to side behind the brake disc, we remove the ball bearing finger from the hole of the steering knuckle.
With the head on 1Z, we loosen the tightening bolt of the mounting bracket of the stretcher to the body.
With the head on 18, turn off the mounting nut of the subframe bracket
Remove the bracket from the front bolt of the lever attachment to the stretcher
With the head on 18, turn off the nut of the rear bolt of the lever attachment, holding the bolt with a cap wrench of the same size.
We take out the bolt or knock it out with a mandrel made of soft metal.
Similarly, unscrew the nut of the rear lever mounting bolt and remove the bolt.
Remove the suspension lever.
Install the lever in reverse order.
The nuts of the lever mounting bolts to the stretcher are finally tightened.
Tightening torques of fasteners of assembly units during installation:
- The nut of the coupling bolt of the terminal connection of the rotary knuckle and the finger of the ball bearing 62 Nm
- Nut of the suspension arm mounting bolt to the subframe 105 Nm
- Mounting nut of the subframe bracket to the bolt of the front suspension lever 62 Nm
- Mounting bolt of the subframe bracket to the body 21 Nm
- Nut of the screw for fixing the stabilizer bar to the suspension arm 14 Nm
- Front wheel hub bearing nut 280 Nm
- Wheel mounting bolt 105 Nm
How to replace the ball bearing of the front suspension
The cause of possible knocks of the front suspension may be ball joints.
A faulty hinge can be identified by touch by the backlash of the ball pin. We replace such a hinge.
We check the condition of the dirt-proof covers of the hinges. Hinges with torn covers are replaced in the assembly.
On the new ball joint, we turn or deflect the ball pin in different directions. Backlash, light stroke of the finger or its strong jamming are unacceptable.
We are preparing the car for the job.
We install the car on an observation pit or a lift.
Remove the front suspension arm assembly with ball bearing
Using a powerful screwdriver, we pry the housing of the support under the collar (Figure 1)
Leaning on the edge of the lever, we press the ball bearing out of the lever hole.
We inspect the eye of the lever – there should be no cracks or breaks around the hole.
Before pressing the new ball bearing, we thoroughly clean the landing surface of the lever opening from dirt and corrosion.
Having placed a tool head or a piece of pipe of a suitable diameter under the lever, we insert a new ball bearing into the hole.
Striking the mandrel with a hammer (Figure 4, you can use a tool head), resting on the collar of the support body, we press the support into the lever hole until it stops.
Further assembly is carried out in reverse order.
